What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is the assurance that a school provides quality education. Accreditation by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges certifies that a school has met the standards of the Middle States Association within the terms of the school's own stated philosophy and objectives. Through the accreditation process, the school periodically carries out a self-evaluation and sets goals. Impartial professionals from other schools evaluate the accuracy of the self-assessment and make recommendations for school improvement.
Why is Accreditation Important?
- Accreditation provides a systematic process for examining the entire school: its philosophy and goals, its community, its programs and services, the facilities and financial stability.
- Accreditation provides a way to manage change through data collection, assessment, strategic planning, implementation, and reassessment.
What is Accreditation at ACS?
The American Community School of Amman has been accredited by the Middle States Association since 1982. Most recently, ACS was re-accredited in 2006. Each seven years, the school embarks upon a new accreditation cycle that involves self-assessment, data collection, and strategic planning. We are beginning the process during this school year. Representatives of all stakeholders in the community will be involved in this process: the School Board, parents, teachers, administration, and students. During the 2011-2012 school year the majority of accreditation work will be completed in preparation for construction of the school’s self-study report to the Middle States Association. In second semester of 2013 a team of outside educators will come to ACS to validate the self-study, determine how well the school meets the accreditation standards, and make a recommendation for re-accreditation.
