Character Counts
1. Code of Ethics
Each student will memorize the code of ethics. When a problem arises, the student will need to discuss what they did against the code and what they would do differently. This is for both the classroom and around school.
Hurt no one on the inside or outside
Respect your school and all its property
Special places require special behavior
2. Acts of kindness
To recognize those students who do nice, kind, appropriate things they will receive an Act of Kindness "ticket". For instance, if someone on the playground were seen doing something nice to another, a teacher would hand him or her an act of kindness ticket. The student would then be responsible for writing their name and class on the ticket and depositing it into the Act of Kindness Box in the office. Prior to the Thursday morning assembly, 5-7 names will be pulled out the box. The students will be given a certificate and a "Character Counts" pencil at the assembly.
3. Character Counts Books
We will focus on 9 character traits. For each trait a picture book will be chosen that best show that trait. Every class will get a set of these 9 books to keep in their classroom. Teachers will read and discuss the book with their class the first week of the month. Teachers can distribute lessons that other staff for that trait to use at your "leisure".
4. Character Counts Bulletin Board & Monthly Themes
Each month a character trait will be highlighted. Starting in September each class will be responsible for decorating the character counts bulletin board. Students can write a response, draw a picture, or do whatever you like to go with the theme. The Bulletin board should be up by the end of the first week of the month.
