Arabic Language Program
The Arabic Language Program was launched in order to provide native speakers the opportunity to strengthen their oral and literary fluency as well as offer non native speaker to learn the language of their host country. For these purposes, the program is divided into two parts:
- Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) for students whose native language is Arabic.
- Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL) for students who speak other languages.
Both languages are offered from KG to grade 12 and is only mandatory up to 5th grade. Middle and High school students may select Arabic as an elective.
Modern Standard Arabic
The goal of MSA is for native speakers of Arabic to achieve 4 main standards of the Arabic language:
- Students will read fluently and use decoding and word analysis strategies
- Students will comprehend, respond to, and analyze a wide variety of literary texts
- Students will write with clarity, logic, validity, and effectiveness on a wide range of topics
- Students will listen and respond critically to oral communications.
Students will be immersed in the Arabic Language through using authentic materials and a variety of texts to enable them to use the language confidently in daily life and their future careers.
Arabic as a Foreign Language
The AFL program aims to develop the student’s Arabic communication
skills to actively function in daily real life situations during their stay in Jordan.
Students will learn to use the language for meaningful communication in both spoken and written form. Students will also develop sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic heritage of the language.
